“Calling or going to a lawyer’s office is the last thing I would want to do. Who wants to get mixed up with those (blanks)?” Famous last words. Some dummies and even some intelligent people would rather wing it themselves. They know absolutely nothing about the problem they are trying to solve but that doesn’t bother them. In most cases what happens? They miss deadlines or are taken for a ride by insurance companies or corporations. Let’s use a little common sense. How is it possible for you to handle a complex legal problem when in many instances highly competent and educated attorneys have difficulty successfully resolving the problem. The dummy will say “But my matter is not complex.” Really? Those are the ones that end up being complex because you botched them. This is plain talk from an attorney who has been up and down the road for over 50 years. I have seen practically everything. One thing I have rarely seen is a layman doing a good job on a legal matter. Let’s be crystal clear about some matters however, on truly small or routine problems it is both customary and desirable for people to handle these without legal help. But if a matter is serious or could be serious you make a big mistake if you don’t get legal advice. Your negligence for not getting legal advice is greater because so many law firms offer free consultations on a variety of matters. If you don’t like lawyers you probably won’t pay any attention to this advice. I would ask you to keep an open mind and try talking to one of us . . . you may be surprised . . . you may like what you learn. |
