You Saved My Life

“You saved my life.”

These were the words of one of our asbestos clients.  He came into the office for his semi-annual legal check-up about a year later than his regular legal check-up was due.  He looked much older but had a happy face and a great attitude.

Needless to say I wasn’t put out with him for being late when he explained what happened to him.

When I asked him to tell me how I had saved his life he said . . . “Do you remember when you signed me up on my asbestos case and sent me to get chest x-rays.  They x-rayed me and found that I had asbestosis and also lung cancer.  Mr. Waldman they put me in the hospital and operated on me right away.  They said they got it in time and I’m o.k. now.  If you had not sent me to get those x-rays I would’ve been a dead man.  You saved my life.”

That really made my day.  Sometimes we need a shot in the arm and this was mine.  Lawyers, especially personal injury lawyers, are ridiculed so much and so often it feels good to find out that what you are doing is worthwhile.

The lesson we learn from my client is that if we suspect that we have been exposed to a harmful substance we should get tested without delay.  This is especially true if it doesn’t cost us anything to be tested and it can be done so conveniently.

Be smart.  Get regular physical examinations and get your doctor or lawyer to arrange necessary testing.

Sincerely,

Carl Waldman
